Going to school with torn school bags will be a thing of the past for the learners of Nkambeni Primary School, Majika Primary School and Sibukoseftu Secondary School.
This is through the generous donation by the Nonyane Foundation in partnership with Hero Networks24. These organizations donated over 200 schoolbags to learners from these public schools on Saturday January 29 2022. The Nonyane Foundation is a nongovernmental organization aimed at reaching out to the indigent and vulnerable by contributing and offering them basic human needs.
The initiative to donate schoolbags was established after the co-founder of the organization, Victoria Nonyane, had noticed the great need for schoolbags within and around the Hazyview area.
“I would sometimes walk around the area in the morning when the learners were going to school, just to see what was they lacked. That is when I got to see that most learners either have bags that are bigger than they are, or carry their books in plastic bags.
This broke my heart, because it meant that whenever it rained, these learners’ books would become wet. We then took a decision with my team to ease their troubles and donate schoolbags,” she said.
Michael Mabunda, the principal of Nkambeni Primary School, encouraged the learners to take care of their schoolbags so that they last longer. “Those bags will last longer only if you take good care of them. They are meant to carry books and nothing else,” he said. The EFF’s provincial leader, Collen Sedibe, who was part of the handover, pledged R50 000 that will be used towards the organization’s developmental
